I am no Gael, but I did find:
" Tha Ìle ainmeil airson còrr is 200 gnè eadar-dhealaichte de dh’eòin, nam measg an eun-grunnachaidh, brìdean, sùlaire, steàrnag, faoileag, tunnag, sgarbh timcheall a’ chost agus an geadh fiadhaich, a’ churracag, a’ chrotag, an traon agus mòran eòin eile air tìr. [1]
Well lach is far more common for wild duck. And SNH will need to use tunnag sometimes to distinguish different species scientifically, but that text looks like someone hasn't thought aout the kind of wild duck one gets on Islay. In short, it looks like a mistake.
Tunnag is the female, which is why it is used for the farm duck, as they are kept for their eggs. Whereas lach is a wild duck in general, or a drake, though the word lach itself is feminine.
I suppose if you are using tunnag to mean both wild and domestic ducks in general, then it's acceptable. Otherwise, for wild ducks, it's lach and lach is modified in various ways to give you different species, e.g. lach-bheag, lach-bhinn, lach-bhreac etc.
Halò, càit an d'fhuair thu an tiotal? Chunnaic mi "Taisbeanadh Obar Bhrothaig" ann an grunnan àite, nam measg BBC, LearnGaelic is Foghlam Alba, ach cha do lorg mi "Tiomnadh Bhruis air Neo-Eisimeileachd na h-Albann" ach san t-Albannach agus tha sin tiotal leabhair bho 1921. --Droigheann (an deasbaireachd) 18:36, 17 dhen t-Samhain 2016 (UTC)
Chan eil ann an "Taisbeanadh Obar Bhrothaig" ach eadar-theangachadh air a' Bheurla. 'S e Tiomnadh Bhruis a thug na Gàidheil air bho thùs. Tha sinn ag iarraidh Gàidhlig, 's chan e Beurla le rùsg na Gàidhlig air. Càit an d' fhuair mi e? 'S ann a tha sin sgrìobhte sna h-iomraidhean ach chunnaic mi e ann an iomadh àite eile.--Glan-adair2015 (an deasbaireachd) 09:15, 18 dhen t-Samhain 2016 (UTC)
