The Gaelic Wikipedian residency at the National Library of Scotland, supported by Wikimedia UK and Bòrd na Gàidhlig, runs with one part-time post from January 2017 to January 2018.

  • 17th March: workshop on ‘How to run an Edit-a-thon’ with Ewan McAndrew, University of Edinburgh
  • 31st March: workshop on ‘Introduction to WikiData’ with Ewan McAndrew, University of Edinburgh

I attended the Language Show Live exhibition at the SECC, Glasgow along with Bòrd na Gàidhlig. •collected 6 mailing list contacts for Uicipeid •trained one participant in basic editing of Uicipeid •distributed booklets on Wikimedia

Kate Forbes MSP

The National Library hosted a visit from the Member of the Scottish Parliament for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, Kate Forbes. Kate Forbes is a Gaelic speaker and came to find out more about the Library’s Gaelic-related work. The visit included a presentation on Wikimedia and Uicipeid. Three citations, using NLS digital collections, were added to the Uicipeid page for Inbhir Pheofharain (Dingwall), Ms Forbes’ hometown as part of the demonstration.
