::Thank you! The idea behind the generic 'citation' template seems to be acting as a catch all for anything not covered by news, web, book, or journal. The template is used [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apiales here] in reference 4 (the other references use cite journal or book, which shows that the approach to using them can be flexible).
