Object history
Deutsch: Vorbild des Stadtwappens war das Weilburger Stadtsiegel von 1329. Das Wappen zeigt eine befestigte Stadt mit drei Kirchen und einen kleinen Schild mit dem Wappen der Grafen von Nassau, deren Stadt lange Zeit ihr Besitztum war. Alle späteren Siegel sehen dem Wappen sehr ähnlich, bis im 19. Jahrhundert der Löwe von Nassau entfernt wurde.
English: The arms were based on the oldest seals of the city, which date from around 1300. The arms show a fortified city with three churches, and a small shield with the arms of the Counts of Nassau, whose city was a longtime possession. All later seal show a similar composition until the 19th century when the lion of Nassau was removed.
