English: Bracken, Garvald Law. Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) is one of the world's most successful plants. Each fern is like a leaf on a tree, the plant being mainly underground as a network of rhizomes. It is invasive and hard to eradicate and can degrade large areas of farmland. It is also toxic with carcinogenic spores. Here the steep slopes of Garvald Law above the Dewar water are dark green with the stuff, a contrast to the other hills nearby which are now purple with heather.
